Changing Face of Today’s College Students
Recent data show that more and more women are taking the opportunity to go back to school in an effort to get better jobs and to support their families. Vicky Dewsnup, of Stevens-Henager College talks about the changing face of today’s college students, what they’re looking for in their college experience and also some great campus opportunities and events that are coming up.
More college students today are considered non-traditional students, which includes stay-at-home and working moms. Basically, students who balance schooling with other responsibilities. (Traditional students: 4-year student, part time worker, parents helped pay, no kids, ages 18-22).
These students are looking for a school like Stevens-Henager College because the school is tailored to meet their needs. Stevens-Henager has flexible class schedules, frequent enrollment periods, accelerated course formats, scholarships for those who qualify and campus and online courses.
At Stevens-Henager there are many healthcare courses of study that are very popular and provide wonderful career opportunities.
- Associate’s programs – Nursing Education, medical specialties, OTA, etc.
- Bachelor’s degrees – Health Science, Health Information Management, Health Administration, Nursing Administration
- Master’s Degrees – Healthcare Administration and Nursing Administration
Stevens-Henager also provides real-world experience in many fields. That is one of the reasons the Ogden Campus is hosting a free health fair on August 21st from 1-5 p.m. at Stevens-Henager College, 1890 South 1350 West, Ogden.
There will be free health screenings done by nursing students and faculty with include blood tests, blood pressure, and glucose level testing. There will be special speakers on diet and nutrition, booths sponsored by organizations in the community including weight loss and hormone replacement, pain management, chiropractic care, occupational therapy, massage, The United Way, The Red Cross, bone density tests by Ogden Regional and Bach Flower Therapy and iodine testing.
