Logan, Utah (February 27, 2013) —
Logan students in the medical assistant program at Stevens-Henager College, a leading provider of on-campus and online higher education, had a 100 percent pass rate on the national Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assistants) exam in 2012.
All 14 students from the campus who took the exam passed. But the pass rate is not unusual coming from the program, said Christy Grove, associate dean of medical specialties. In 2011, eight students took the exam with seven passing. In 2010 all five students who took the exam passed. Nationally the exam has a 67 percent pass rate.
“We practice, practice, practice with our students until they can’t get it wrong,” said Grove. “Students participate in community service projects to hone soft skills and reinforce what they have learned. Our instructors have worked in the medical field, so they know what will be expected from our students and they demand it in the classroom.”
The Logan campus has offered the medical specialties program for 10 years, and the campus began tracking the certification exam through the AAMA in 2009. Stevens-Henager College offers 19 healthcare degree programs including medical specialties, nursing and healthcare administration.
