Certification assures competency in operating room procedures
OGDEN, Utah (August 26, 2013) —
The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) recently awarded Stevens-Henager College an annual merit award for achieving a 100 percent pass rate for students taking the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination from August 2012 – July 2013. The CST certification demonstrates that graduates have an understanding of the basic competencies for safe patient care in the operating room.
The award recognized Stevens-Henager College for its role as a leader in the field of surgical technology education. The CST is widely recognized in the health care community as the foremost credential for surgical technologists in the nation, and is required for employment within many local, state and national health care organizations.
“We are very pleased to receive this recognition on behalf of our students who worked so hard to pass the CST exam, and the instructors who helped prepare them,” said President Vicky Dewsnup. “Stevens-Henager College offers a wide variety of both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in healthcare, and we constantly strive to pass all of our students in their certification examinations, and to make sure they are well-prepared to serve as health care professionals when they graduate.”
“Having a high exam success rate is also important to us because prospective students look at exam and certification pass rates as a criterion for selecting a school,” added Cynthia Farley, program director for Surgical Technology. “It’s a great way to determine if a college will provide a quality education.”
The CST exam is the only fully accredited test offered by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for surgical technologists in the U.S. NCCA accreditation assures that the CST examination meets stringent examination development and administration standards.
