All nine students qualify for FBLA-PBL nationals in June
Ogden, Utah (March 18, 2014) —
Business students from the Ogden/West Haven campus of Stevens-Henager College, a leading provider of career-focused education, competed in the Future Business Leaders of America–Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) state competition last weekend. The college secured 11 first-place finishes, with all nine student representatives earning a spot at the national competition in June.
“We are committed to developing marketable and career-oriented individuals. The success our students experience annually at this statewide event demonstrates their level of preparation and readiness to enter the workforce,” said Kelly Stone, Stevens-Henager College Ogden’s director of career services. “We may have been the smallest college in the competition, but our performance illustrates the high-quality education our students receive.”
Nine students from the Ogden campus participated in the competition and each achieved outstanding results, taking home 11 first-place awards, which significantly exceeded last year’s first-place performance of five first-place finishes. All nine students will travel to the national competition held in Nashville, Tenn., in June.
The fast-paced event included a combination of presentations and testing. Winners were determined by a panel of judges. The two-day competition covered more than 15 categories, such as business law, public speaking, hospitality management, cybersecurity, and human resource management, among others. Overall participant turnout was impressive this year; students from nearly every Utah college competed, including Utah State University, University of Utah, Weber State University, and Utah Valley University.
Future Business Leaders of America–Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is the collegiate level of the Future Business Leaders of America and the largest business student organization. The FBLA-PBL is an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Each year the organization holds statewide leadership conferences, pitting FBLA-PBL chapters against one another in an intense competition on categories ranging from business law to desktop publishing.
