Boise, ID - Free assistance for preparing and filing taxes is currently available at the Stevens-Henager College Nampa campus for community members who made less than $65,000 last year. Stevens-Henager College participates in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, allowing students to provide professional quality tax preparation services to individuals and families in the community after receiving specialized training. “In addition to serving our community, the program provides our students with the opportunity to learn how to prepare taxes, work on their interpersonal and professionalism skills, augment their resumes, and learn other skills that will reward them over the course of their career,” said George Thomas, Executive Director of the Stevens-Henager College campuses in Boise and Nampa. “All this, in addition to the reward that they receive from serving others.” The program is completely volunteer-based, with staff and students donating time every weekend for nearly three months in order to complete the program. Last year, the college assisted 300 people looking for help on their taxes. So far this year, the college has already assisted over 200 people. “Using the VITA program can help families save $400 or more on tax preparation fees,” Thomas said. “This service provides community members with the information, expertise, and advocacy that they need in order to make more powerful choices in their lives, and have more money in their pockets to make more empowered decisions.” To receive help with your taxes, contact the college at 208-467-0501 or visit the campus when volunteers are available, Saturdays (9am – 12pm) at 16819 N. Marketplace Blvd. in Nampa. About Stevens-Henager College Stevens-Henager College provides career-focused higher education to students in Utah and Idaho.
