Easier Way to Earn a College Degree in Rural Communities
Boise, IDAHO (August 01, 2012) —
Stevens-Henager College, a leading provider of online and on ground higher education, today announced a partnership with the Idaho Education Network (IEN) that provides convenient access to college degree programs to residents living in Idaho’s rural communities through closed-circuit television.
This partnership allows residents living outside of Stevens-Henager’s current campus locations to take classes in the evening at the local high schools. Stevens-Henager is the first higher education institution to offer this innovative option for Idaho residents seeking post-secondary degrees.
Courses fulfill requirements for degrees in business management, accounting and web design and development. Participating Idaho communities include Clark Fork, COSSA (serving Homedale, Marsing, Notus, Parma and Wilder), Mackay, Rigby, Salmon, Sandpoint, Shelly, St. Maries, Sugar/Salem and Westside. The first round of classes will begin Monday, September 24.
Through synchronous video conferencing on a private network, students participate in live courses as they are being held at Stevens-Henager campuses. This interactive format allows students to ask questions, participate with other students and view lesson materials as they are being presented in real time.
“Stevens-Henager College is committed to providing innovative solutions to help students pursue advanced degrees and this partnership exemplifies that dedication,” said Eric Juhlin, CEO of Stevens-Henager College. “Our instructors can now provide the same classroom experience to students in rural communities that students at our campus receive.”
“Our partnership with Stevens-Henager College allows those without access to higher education opportunities to pursue a degree in a more personal and interactive format than a wholly online degree option,” said Julie Best, director of the Idaho Education Network. “Students can take their advanced degrees into the local workforce to benefit the communities they live and work in.”
