Clyde Wagnon, a 93-Year-Old MBA Graduate, Among the 476 Graduates Recognized During Saturday's CommencementSalt Lake City (June 04, 2013) — Stevens-Henager College, a leading provider of on-campus and online higher education, held its first commencement exercises for students that have graduated from its online division, including Clyde Wagnon, a 93-year-old graduate who received a master's degree in business administration. The commencement, held at Capitol Theatre, recognized the achievements of 476 students who graduated with either associate, bachelor's or master's degrees from the Stevens-Henager College Online Division. While this was the online division's first graduation ceremony, more than 1,270 students have graduated online since 2009 and there are currently 2,700 students enrolled. "We are so proud of our students and their accomplishments," said Dr. Alan Hansen, executive director of Stevens-Henager College Online. "The popularity of online schooling has increased over the years. For many students, finding the time to manage work, family, and school can be a challenge. Online programs offer students the flexibility they need with support from instructors and students just a click away." Online education offers many of the same programs, textbooks, and services as a campus-based university, but everything is at your fingertips—at home, at work, while traveling, or while serving in the military. Students study independently, but have access to online services, instructors, and student advisors. Students can partner with other students in their area or online and study together, providing mutual motivation and support. Wagnon, who addressed the graduates, retired 25 years ago after a career in real estate and mobile home sales. "I did not enjoy the retirement lifestyle," Wagnon stated. "Earning my MBA online made the most sense for my lifestyle; and now that I have my degree, I look forward to beginning a new career path." At age 93, Wagnon earned his Master of Business Administration degree completely online through the Stevens-Henager College Online Division. After graduation, Wagnon plans to publish his autobiography, continue to write and speak to students about the benefits of higher education. Stevens-Henager College Online offers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in healthcare, business, information technology and graphic arts.
