Stevens-Henager College Receives Award for Their Work With Local Nonprofit
Salt Lake City (January 21, 2014) —
Stevens-Henager College was recognized for their charitable work with People Helping People (PHP), a local nonprofit organization offering low-income women the tools to develop the skills to become financially self-sufficient. The award was accepted by Katrina Ahmann, outreach coordinator at Stevens-Henager College. Ahmann was recognized for her outstanding achievements in creating awareness for the programs offered by People Helping People.
“Stevens-Henager College has established a great partnership with People Helping People,” Ahmann said. “I have seen how this organization changes the lives of women and children. At Stevens-Henager College, we understand the importance of education and training for the job market, and we saw an opportunity to help members of our community.”
Stevens-Henager College is the major supporter of PHP’s Single Mother Seminar, which happens twice a year. At the seminar, employers from around the state educate PHP clients about potential job opportunities. The last seminar, which was open to both men and women, had more than 400 attendees.
“Our seminars help us connect with people who are looking for jobs, and we can help them build the skills they need to compete for employment opportunities,” said Elaina McFarlin, marketing coordinator for People Helping People. “Stevens-Henager College has been a really big part of the seminars.”
People Helping People is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the number of children living in poverty by teaching low-income women, primarily single mothers, how to earn an adequate income through stable employment that pays a living wage.
Stevens-Henager College offers associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in healthcare, business, information technology and graphic arts. For more information about career-focused education, visit www.stevenshenager.edu or call 1-800-622-2640.
